Poor cleaning results from a dishwasher are usually caused by a mechanical or maintenance issue rather than a machine failure.

Common Causes

Blocked or Damaged Spray Arms

The spray arms distribute water over the dishes. Blocked holes or cracked arms reduce water pressure and coverage. Remove and clean or replace the spray arms — cost to replace: £50–£90.

Blocked Filter

The filter at the bottom of the dishwasher collects food debris. If it is not cleaned regularly it will restrict water flow and result in dirty dishes. Clean the filter monthly.

Pump Failure

A weak or failing circulation pump reduces water pressure throughout the wash cycle. Pump replacement typically costs £90–£160.

Incorrect Salt and Rinse Aid Levels

Low salt causes limescale buildup on dishes and inside the machine. Low rinse aid causes water spots and poor drying. Top up both regularly.
